Three Ways To Decorate Your Lawn For The Holidays Without Causing Damage

Blog

Decorating the lawn for the holidays is a great way to show off your spirit. Not only this, but it's also a great way to get the family involved in the holidays by having everyone help put everything together in the lawn. However, not many people realize that some lawn decor can actually be damaging to your landscaping, not to mention the damage that is already being done by the snow, wind, and rain during this time of year. Here are three ways to help you decorate your lawn without causing damage:

  1. Plan Your Landscape Design: When you are going through a landscape design project in the summer or spring and you know that you like to go all out for holiday decor, put this in your landscape design. Your contractor can help you design a lawn that looks good all year round, but is still able to accommodate for the lawn decor. This includes setting up tall bushes by the front door that you can string with lights, having enough smooth lawn space for blow up holiday decor or light decor, and a pathway where holiday candy cane lights can be placed. When you do this, you are much less likely to damage your landscaping because it will already be made to handle this.
  2. Use Lightweight Decorations: Whenever you purchase decorations, you want to ensure that it is lightweight. This way, it is not pushing down on the grass preventing it from having healthy growth. You also want outdoor lighting that is lightweight if you are going to be stringing it on bushes or trees. This way, it is not causing branches to lean down and potentially falling off the tree or bush causing damage.
  3. Use Most of the Decor on the Porch: Using most of your decor on the porch is the best way to make your home inviting and seasonal without causing damage to the lawn. This is why it's also important to create a landscape design that can incorporate a large porch for you to decorate. Keep the porch open too so that the decor can be seen from the streets. This way, you don't feel the need to continue to expand the decor onto the lawn.

When you know these three ways to decorate your lawn for the holidays in a safe way, you can ensure that you do not have extreme damage to make up for when Spring rolls around again. Contact a landscaping service, like Land Craft, for more help.

Understanding Landscaping Planning

About a year ago, I realized that part of the reason the plants in my yard kept dying was the fact that they were planted in the wrong places. I didn't pay much attention to which plants needed certain amounts of light, and it was costing them their lives. Several of the plants were really struggling to live, and it was really hard to see. I realized that if I ever wanted to make things right, I would need to create a landscaping plan that would work well for the natural landscape of my yard. This blog is all about understanding landscaping.
