Ensure That Your Backyard Synthetic Turf Offers These Attributes

Blog

When you shop for synthetic turf for your backyard, you'll want to devote considerable care to choosing a color and lushness that will work for you. These aren't the only details to assess, however. Talk to a turf salesperson to learn about the wide range of attributes that are available in synthetic turf. There are a number of attributes that should stand out to you as being desirable for residential applications, including the following three.

Fire Resistant

It's important to choose synthetic turf for your backyard that is fire resistant. This is especially true if you have a fire pit situated anywhere in the yard, as an airborne spark could easily land on the turf. With fire-resistant turf, such an incident isn't a concern at all. Even if you don't have a fire pit in your yard, fire-resistant synthetic turf is still a good idea. For example, if you were to have a gathering in your yard in which a few of your guests smoke, one of them could inadvertently drop his or her cigarette onto the turf — something that won't matter if you've chosen a product that is fire resistant.

UV Resistant

It might also surprise you to know that many types of artificial turf are UV resistant. This primarily means that they won't fade because of exposure to the sun. This is another important attribute on which to insist when you're shopping for turf for your yard. Parts of your yard will likely get the full sun, while other parts will mostly be in the shade. The last thing that you'd want is for the turf to change color in certain areas over the years because of the sun exposure. With UV-resistant turf, this isn't a scenario that you'll have to think about.

Drain Holes

You also want to choose a type of synthetic turf that has small drain holes throughout the base. These holes are integral for allowing the rain to pass through the turf and flow into the earth below. Without holes, the water would pool on the turf, keeping it wet well after the rain stops. This would not only leave the turf messy underfoot but would also affect how it looks. Talk to your salesperson about the different types of turf that have drain holes to learn which would be best for your area. For example, if you live in an area that gets a lot of rain, a product with a higher frequency of holes would be a better choice.

Understanding Landscaping Planning

About a year ago, I realized that part of the reason the plants in my yard kept dying was the fact that they were planted in the wrong places. I didn't pay much attention to which plants needed certain amounts of light, and it was costing them their lives. Several of the plants were really struggling to live, and it was really hard to see. I realized that if I ever wanted to make things right, I would need to create a landscaping plan that would work well for the natural landscape of my yard. This blog is all about understanding landscaping.
